Update or remove credentials

By the end of this page you will know how to change a connection’s keys, how to make a running app pick up the change, and how to delete credentials.

Prerequisites

  • Developer Developer role or above.
  • Credentials already saved for the connection (Add credentials).

Change a credential

Open Connections, click the connection, and change the value on the side you want: Preview or Production. To replace a saved secret, click into the field and type the new value. Then click Save preview or Save production.

You don’t need to rebuild or redeploy the app. Credentials are handed to your app when it starts, never written into its build. What happens next depends on the side you changed.

Preview restarts on its own

After a Preview save you’ll see Saved. Running previews will pick this up automatically. A running preview notices the change within a few minutes and restarts itself with the new value. You don’t need to do anything else.

Production needs a restart

A production app reads its credentials once, when it starts. After a Production save you’ll see Saved — but running apps are still using the previous value.

Below that message, qRaptor lists the apps that use these credentials. An app that’s still on the old value reads Running on the previous value, with a Restart button beside it. Click Restart to replace the running app with a fresh copy that reads the new value. The build doesn’t change. The app is unavailable briefly while it restarts, usually under a minute.

That list only appears straight after a Production save. To restart an app later, use its deployment settings instead:

Open the deployment’s settings

In the project sidebar, open Deployments, choose the app’s deployment, then open its Settings.

Restart the pod

In the Danger Zone, click Restart pod. A dialog asks you to confirm: Restart this app’s pod?

The Restart this app's pod? confirmation dialog from a deployment's Danger Zone, with Cancel and Restart pod buttons

Click Restart pod. The app comes back on the same build, now using the new credentials.

💡

Anyone using a production app while it restarts sees an error for a moment. Change live keys when traffic is low.

Delete credentials

To remove a connection’s credentials completely, click Delete credentials at the top right of the Credentials section.

The confirmation dialog lists the apps that use these credentials. Credentials are shared across the project, so deleting them removes them for every app listed. Click Delete credentials to confirm.

⚠️

Deleted credentials can’t be recovered. To use the connection again, you’ll need to enter your keys again. Apps that use the connection won’t start until you do.

Common issues

  • The production app still uses the old key. Production picks up a change only when it restarts. Use Restart after saving, or Restart pod in the deployment’s settings.
  • You cleared a secret, but it’s still saved. Emptying a saved secret never clears it, so a stray click can’t wipe a live key. Type a new value to replace it, or delete the credentials.
